Devonport/Auckland (600km) – Hamilton (800km)

Devonport – Ambury Park Camp site (km620): 24km, 7h

Full range of amenities in Auckland. Ambury camp site need to be pre booked.

Ambury Camp site – Wairoa river track: 50km, 16h

the next 50km leading to Wairoa river track take place in the middle of Auckland surrounding. I’m not keen on walking in towns on a road margin. This section may be avoid thanks to public transports.

Hunua track to Lyons Road (km703): 29km, 12h

no resupply, basic camp-site km676, at Upper (km690) and Lower (km696) Mangatawhini Dam.

Lyons Road – Mercer (km720): 15km, 5h

no amenities, no resupply

Mercer – Bridge over Waikato River, Rangiriri (km 745): 27km, 8h

no amenities, no resupply, no camping

Rangiriri – Huntly (km759): 14km, 4h

No camping on private land. Camp-site and resupply in Huntly.

It’s a long section without amenities and resupply from Auckland suburbs… something like 140km, 45h… 6 days of autonomy.

the track is steep, hilly and arduous…
